Wimax Wireless Broadband surfacing
After months of hype and speculation, Wimax 802.16 Wireless Broadband access technology looks to be surfacing in a major way. Speakeasy has announced a Wimax-class service beaming from the Space Needle in Seattle, WA. The first among several major cities in which Speakeasy will roll out their fixed wireless broadband service for businesses.
Unstrung says, TowerStream has established a Point of Presence on top of San Francisco's Clay Jones building, which is the highest point on Nob Hill. It will be capable of delivering Broadband to organizations within a ten mile radius.
With Intel leading the way in promoting Wimax, Intel Mobility Group executive vice president and general manager Sean Maloney gave a keynote at the in Las Vegas to show that Wimax is for real.
Intel showed the potential of Wimax by transmitting a Wireless signal between several points around they Las Vegas area. This after Intel convincingly showed the ability to transmit movies wirelessly with Wimax at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
To top off the good Wimax news, Sprint and Intel are teaming up on Mobile Wimax 802.16e. Look forward to mobility, using wimax to connect to the Internet with your laptop, handheld, and mobile phones in 2007.
