Voip Service Growing
According to research, Voip service revenues will grow to $19.9 billion by 2009. Voice over IP is a hot market and quickly being adopted worldwide with services such as Skype having already signed up millions of subscribers, and downloads of Skype software exceeding 100,000,000.
Networking Pipeline says Voip services represented less than 1% of wireline carrier revenue in North America last year. With the Voip buzz growing and more competition in the online telephony market, there should be lots of voip services to choose from going forward. One report says that Voip is killing traditional telephony. The study found that 23% of small-to-mid-sized enterprises are already using Voip technology and the number is expected to grow to 50% by 2008.
Vonage and AOL are among a growing number of companies to offer Voip phone service, but we have yet to see if mainstream consumers will adopt Broadband Voice over Internet Protocal as a replacement for traditional telephone service.
In related Voip news, according to a study from API Research, annual global sales of "dual-mode" mobile phones are likely to exceed 100 million in 2009. These phones can connect to a normal cellular service or a Wi-fi network for voice over Wi-fi.
