2006 - The Year Of Online Video
Robin Good of masternewmedia.org says 2006 will be the year of online video. His predictions on the upcoming web and new media future reveal that "Video will be a disruptive media force on the Internet, as it will further allow the entry and participation of smaller and independent players in both global and local markets." I agree, and I'll add that mobile, portable video (video podcasts, mobile TV) will play a big role in how we access video content in 2006 and beyond.
Online Video will affect news consumption, will change television viewing patterns and habits, and will give ways to new forms of entertainment and training. The number of changes and transformations that video is just about to bring to the online world are too many and too significant not to be paid attention to.
There are a number of specific innovations that affect the way we use and consume video-based content. Some of these include:
- P2P Television
- Micro-TV
- New monetization opportunities for video-makers
- Video content sold to and among content publishers
- Video mashups
- Citizen-TV
- The value of video archives
- Video search
- Flash video
- Home as a media hub
- Video integration in many applications and services
- Screencasting
- Interactive Real-Time Video
- Web Conferencing and Collaboration
