London Bombings Scenes Captured by Amateurs

London_bombings_1

An interesting point was made in an Associated Press article titled: "Digital Imaging Tech Widens Newsgathering."  After the horrific bombings in London, digital photographs and short video clips were taken at the scenes by amateurs before professional photographers could get there.

With inexpensive cameras everywhere, including increasingly in cell phones, we're seeing more searing images than ever of human drama. The chances of getting poignant amateur video, meanwhile, are improving radically.

Morgan Freeman's ClickStar Backed by Intel

Morgan_freeman_clickstarAcadamy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman is being backed by Intel Corp. on a venture to distribute movies online over broadband Internet.  The aim is to release films through the Internet before they are available on DVD, to beat DVD pirates at their own game.  The new company called ClickStar Inc. was created through Freeman's Revelations Entertainment company with Click Star co-founder /producer Lori McCreary and ClickStar CEO Nizar Allibhoy.

Morgan Freeman says, "We're going to bypass what the music industry had to come up with, and that's to get ahead of the whole piracy thing."

From The New York Times
"I live in Mississippi in a very small town," he said in a phone interview. "In order for me to see a first-run movie, I have to drive a couple of hours at a high rate of speed. For me, and many consumers like me, this will be a godsend. I will be able to get premium content safely and cheaply."

He added that the distribution windows are no longer meaningful because of online piracy and bootleg DVD's. "DVD's are already available in China and in Russia even before they are released for sale here," Mr. Freeman said.

Sanyo_vpcc5
"Thin is in" when talking about personal media gadgets, and the new SANYO VPC-C5 Digital Media Camera fits this growing niche perfectly. I look forward to trying the thumb activated recording, which looks like a quick and easy way to capture digital video and photos on the go.

The SANYO C5 Digital Media Camera is a stylishly thin, pocket-sized 5-megapixel digital camera and full-motion MPEG-4 video camera offering built-in digital image stabilization and a 2-inch trans-reflective LCD screen.  Users can also select real-time interpolation up to 10 megapixels which allows photos to be enlarged to "bigger than life" proportions without sacrificing image fidelity,   Never again will precious photo opportunities be missed, because the versatile SANYO C5 can take digital still images while simultaneously shooting video.

Nasa's Deep Impact Successful

Deep_impact

Nasa's Deep Impact mission provided the first 4th of July fireworks this morning. This is what it looked like when five tons of TNT blasted into the Temple 1 Comet in Space.

Deep Impact consists of a sub-compact-car-sized flyby spacecraft and an impactor, about the size of a washing machine. The dual spacecraft carry three imaging instruments, two on the flyby and one on the impactor.

The 820-pound impactor collided with the comet's nucleus at a closing speed of 23,000 mph. Scientists expect the impact to create a large crater. The impact will eject ice, dust and gas from the crater and reveal the pristine material beneath. The impact will have no significant effect on the comet's orbit, which poses no threat to Earth.

The goal is to see what Comets are made of and if they provide information on how our solar system was formed.
