NTT DoCoMo High-Speed Downlink Packet Access - HSDPA Cellphones
HSDPA, or High-Speed Downlink Packet Access is sure to be a hot topic at the upcoming 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain as companies prepare to roll out their 3G HSDPA networks, products, and services. NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries have jumped in early announcing three prototype HSDPA cellphones developed with Fujitsu, Motorola and NEC. The handsets will be demonstrated at the DoCoMo booth at the 3GSM World Congress 2006 from February 13 to 16.
For now the prototype handsets have maximum speeds of 3.6Mbps, fast enough for high-volume downloads and the viewing of highly rich content. DoCoMo plans to start HSDPA services between July and September 2006.
more about HSDPA
HSDPA is one key technology for making mobile broadband possible. It represents the next step in evolution from UMTS, and offers merits in terms of both performance and commercial feasibility. Because HSDPA has superior spectrum efficiency, it can support higher data traffic than UMTS and mobile broadband speeds for more users. HSDPA attains a peak download speed of up to 14 Mbps as per specifications.
