WiBro at the Olympics

WiBro (wireless broadband) technology is about to have a huge "coming out" party during the upcoming 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. Telecom Italia will equip about 50 people with WiBro, which is the South Korean version of Mobile WiMax 802.16e. In fact, Telecom Italia may even extend WiBro wireless technology across Italy if tests at the Turin Winter Olympics are successful. Samsung recently introduced their first WiBro phone and Wibro PDA, with more terminals in the works.

Samsung_h1000_wibro_phone_samsung_m8000__2 "We have done a deal with Samsung to launch WiBro at the Olympics Games," Tronchetti Provera told the OECD Digital Content Conference in Rome.

Alongside the Telecom Italia deal, WiBro will be demonstrated at the Turin Olympics with a "WiBro Shuttle Bus", in which users will be able to watch television, play online games and hold video conferences.
