Joost to offer Viacom Video Content Online
Obviously Viacom was up to something when the media company asked Google to take down more than 100,000 videos from YouTube a few weeks ago. Apparently Viacom has been talking to Joost, the Internet TV company started by Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström of Skype fame. Now Joost has made a licensing deal with Viacom to make programs from Viacom divisions like MTV Networks, BET Networks, and Paramount Pictures available for free to Joost users. Unlike YouTube, Joost does not feature user-generated video content, concentrating instead on quality Internet TV broadcasts instead. This deal is just one of many deals Joost will be making to gather good video content as they look towards becoming the top dog in the Internet TV space.
