Mobile WiMAX Devices From Samsung: SPH-P9000, SPH-M8100, USB Dongle
High-speed Wimax and Mobile Wimax wireless technology has officially arrived, with telecom companies around the world preparing to introduce Wimax services and devices this year. Samsung Mobile Wimax gear is being showcased at the 3gsm conference this week, with live demonstrations of Mobile WiMAX, Mobile WiMAX WAVE 2 (40Mbps download, 12MBps upload rates!) and applications like push-to-all technology. Samsung’s new Mobile WiMAX devices, including the SPH-P9000 Deluxe MITs that we saw recently, and the new SPH-M8100 Mobile WiMAX PDA device are getting a lot of attention, but Samsung has also introduced a USB dongle at 3GSM World Congress that enables access to Mobile WiMAX (WiBro) and HSDPA services by connecting the USB dongle to a notebook.
The SPH-P9000 is a uniquely designed UMPC convergence device that combines Windows XP, a large 30GB hard disk, 256MB RAM, a 1GHz CPU, WiMAX, CDMA EV-DO, and a 1.3 megapixel camera into a compact 143 x 94 x 29.7 mm size with a 5” display while weighing only 583g. The P9000 has a full QWERTY keyboard, MP3 player, VOD, and multimedia entertainment features.
The SPH-M8100 device is said to be the world’s first Mobile WiMAX PDA phone. Users can conduct video conferences and stream television content via Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), in addition to other high-speed data services. The slider phone has a 2.8”, 65k color touch screen display, a TV-out, an MMC card slot, a 2 megapixel camera, and a VGA camera for video calls. The M8100 also features Bluetooth with A2DP, a 128ROM/64MB RAM memory, and the Microsoft view and edit function.
