Wal-Mart Video Downloads Beta Launched
Wal-Mart has just launched Video Downloads Beta, which allows costumers "browse, discover, and download" movies and television shows at walmart.com/videodownloads. Unfortunately, it looks like the service is not compatible with my Firefox browser. That's no way to kick off the service. In any case, Walmart's video downloads service will have about 3,000 films, and television shows, with prices for films ranging from $12.88 to $19.88 and TV episodes for $1.96. Downloading and watching content will require a Windows PC.
Techcrunch points out that Wal-Mart is entering a crowded market already, going up against CinemaNow, MovieLink, Amazon Unbox, NetFlix Watch Now, and Apple iTunes who also offer movie downloads. Walmart has locked up deals with all of the major studios, including Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Sony, 20th Century Fox and Universal, but have yet to finalize deals with ABC, NBC, and CBS for television content.
