100 millionth iPod Sold

It seems like Apple's iPod has been around for more than five and a half years, but it took just that long to reach the magic number of 100 million iPods sold to date. With all the various MP3 players and portable digital audio players available, the iPod remains king, and according to Apple the iPod is the fastest selling music player in history, Sony Walkman included. Since the first iPod was sold in November 2001, Apple has introduced more than 10 new iPod models, including five generations of iPod, two generations of iPod mini, two generations of iPod nano and two generations of iPod shuffle. The iPod economy has also brought over 4,000 iPod accessories to consumers in the past few years, with everything from iPod cases to iPod docks, speaker systems, and automobiles with iPod connectivity.

Soon we'll see if Apple's iPhone will catch on, and match the incredible success of the iPod.
