Canon IXUS 950 IS (PowerShot SD850 IS) and Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital Cameras
Canon has announced the 8.0 Megapixel Digital IXUS 950 IS, also known as the PowerShot SD850 IS in the U.S. The new model has a 4x optical zoom lens with optical Image Stabilizer and the DIGIC III image processor, but it lacks the 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens that was much appreciated on the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS. The new PowerShot SD850 IS has a 35-140mm (35mm equivalent) lens, faster processing and advanced Noise Reduction, as well as Canon’s Face Detection Technology and Red-Eye Correction. It supports ISO 1600 with Auto ISO Shift for improved low light shooting and sports a new 2.5” PureColor LCD screen that offers enhanced color reproduction and scratch-resistance. Canon has also added new creative features including Time Lapse Movie and Creative Light Effect modes.

Canon also announced the new 12x optical zoom, 8.0 Megapixel PowerShot S5 IS digital camera with optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, professional-grade optics and extensive movie functions. It features Face Detection Technology powered by Canon’s DIGIC III image processor, which Canon says will improve focus, exposure and flash output while photographing people, and there's also Red-Eye Correction, and a high sensitivity range of ISO 80-1600 for extended low light performance. Other key advancements include a larger, higher resolution 2.5” vari-angle LCD, additional shooting modes and extended video recording. A new hot shoe is compatible with selected Canon EX Speedlite external flashes, as well as Wide, Tele and Close-up converter lenses.
