Nokia N810 Internet Tablet Debuts

Nokia_n810

Surprise, surprise!  Nokia has introduced the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet in time for Christmas. Believe it or not, I'm still using my Nokia 770 on the road, but this new one from Nokia might be replacing that. The Nokia N800 was not that exciting an upgrade, but the new N810 has the sleek slide-out QWERTY keyboard that I've always wished for on my 770.

The pocket-sized Nokia N810 device is of course Wi-Fi enabled (no WiMax yet), and can be used with a Bluetooth mobile phone for Internet connectivity as well.  You can make calls via Skype, or use Gizmo video chat with the integrated VGA camera. I've been using Gizmo Call to make Voip calls with my Nokia 770, so that should be no problem on the N810 as well.

New features on the Nokia N810 include that sweet slide-out keyboard, a 4.13" 800x480 resolution touch screen, built-in maps and an integrated GPS receiver for satellite navigation. For entertainment on-the-go, Nokia says the N810 offers up to 45 hours of music playback and memory to store up to 7,500 songs on an optional 10GB memory card. The Nokia N810 is powered by maemo Linux based OS2008, and includes a Mozilla based browser with Ajax and Adobe flash 9 support - very nice!  There's also Bluetooth headset support and enhanced video and audio features. It is expected to start shipping mid November with an estimated retail price of $479.

Boingo has also launched worldwide Wi-Fi access for the Nokia N810 and selected Nokia mobile devices. Nokia handsets and Internet Tablets can automatically connect to Boingo's network of tens of thousands of hotspots across the globe for USD 7.95/EUR 5.95/GBP 3.95 per month.

Owners of compatible Nokia Wi-Fi enabled devices -- including selected S60-based smartphones and Linux-based Internet Tablets -- can download and install Boingo Mobile, which enables roaming access to the world's largest network of public hotspots. The Boingo software identifies Boingo-enabled hotspots and automatically authenticates users with their Boingo account.
