Garmin’s CES 2008 GPS Navigation Products

Garmin announced a bunch of new GPS navigation devices and products for 2008, including the latest addition to the nüvi 800 series - the nüvi 880 premium portable navigation device with speech recognition, and dynamic MSN Direct content. Its got a sunlight-readable widescreen 4.3-inch color display for viewing map detail, driving directions, and photos. This nüvi 880 widescreen GPS navigator also features preloaded maps, hands-free calling, an FM transmitter, real-time local weather, traffic, movie times, gas prices, stock information, local news and events.

nüvi 5000 series

Sporting a large, 5.2-inch touchscreen display, the nüvi 5000 is designed for those who need GPS navigation on a big screen.  It features voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions, route calculation, and automatic rerouting if a motorist strays off course. The nüvi 5000 is expected to be available in North America in February for $799.99.  It will be available in Europe in the second quarter of 2008. more

Garmin's nüvi 780 is the newest addition to the popular nüvi family and the most powerful in the 700 series. “The nüvi 780 brings vital information – through dynamic updates – to recreational and business travelers,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Whether you’re doing your daily commute, on an extended business trip or relaxing on vacation, the nüvi 780 uses the second generation of MSN Direct to provide the most important details you need at a glance.”

The nüvi 780 carries a suggested retail price of $ 857.13. Three months of free MSN Direct service is included with the purchase of the nüvi 780. Owners can re-subscribe for $49.95 a year, or a one-time charge of $129.95. more

The nüvi 260W is a simple-to-use widescreen personal navigation device (PND) that speaks street names. This GPS device automatically calls out street names (saying “turn right on Main Street” instead of “turn right in 200 feet.”) letting drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through traffic. The nüvi 260W has a sunlight-readable 4.3-inch touchscreen display and incorporates an internal GPS antenna that makes it thinner and easier to mount in a car. Colorado series

Garmin_colorado Garmin's Colorado series of handheld GPS devices are designed for outdoor, marine and fitness enthusiasts, and features Garmin’s slick Rock ’n Roller wheel. The wheel makes for easy operation of the device, giving you easy one-handed access to all features with a flick of your thumb.

“Whether you’re climbing in the Rockies, fishing an unfamiliar river or geocaching with your family, the Colorado brings your environment to life in unprecedented detail,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales.

The Colorado 400t gives hikers state-of-the-art 3D elevation perspective and preloaded U.S. topographic maps. The Colorado 400i offers anglers shoreline details, depth contours and boat ramps for U.S. inland lakes and navigable rivers. The Colorado 400c is your coastal companion, providing chart coverage for the coastal U.S. and Bahamas. The Colorado 300 features a worldwide basemap with shaded relief.

The Colorado 300 has a suggested retail price of $499. The Colorado 400t, Colorado 400i and Colorado 400c have a suggested retail price of $599. more

The Forerunner 405 makes training with a Virtual Partner easy and efficient. Runners can adjust the Virtual Partner’s pace without stopping in the middle of a workout, and the Virtual Partner is always on and ready for a challenge.

Garmin Mobile PC

Garmin Mobile PC is a navigation package that turns laptops and other mobile PCs into navigators. “Garmin Mobile PC gives travelers an easy and inexpensive way to get more from a device they already own – their laptop,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Plus, it offers many of the same real-time features found on high-end portable GPS devices like weather and fuel price information.”

Garmin Mobile PC is available in two configurations – a software only package and a bundle with software and Garmin’s new GPS 20x sensor. The software only version is compatible with broadband modems, as well as internal or third-party GPS receivers that provide the industry standard NMEA GPS data via serial or Bluetooth connections. The bundled version includes the new GPS 20x, a high sensitivity GPS sensor with a USB connection. The lightweight GPS 20x has non-skid pads for dash mounting and is less than two inches in length.

The Garmin Mobile PC with GPS 20x bundle will be available in April for $99.99 with the software only version expected to be available for $59.99. more
