E-420 Olympus - World's Smallest Digital SLR Camera?
Olympus announced its new E-420 digital SLR camera which is claimed to be the world's smallest DSLR, measuring 5.1 inches by 3.6 inches by 2.1 inches (excluding protrusions), and weighing just 13.4 ounces. That makes the Olympus E-420 about 20 to 40 percent lighter than competing DSLRs. Olympus has a thin, compact lens to go with the E-420 in the ultra compact Zuiko 25mm f2.8 digital specific lens. It's a 0.9 inch-thick lens that offers a fixed 50mm equivalent angle of view. The E-420 will also be available in a kit with a compact, Zuiko Digital 28-84mm equivalent (ED 14-42mm Four Thirds) f3.5-f5.6 lens.
This lightweight 10-megapixel E-420 DSLR features a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD, on-screen autofocus, face detection, shadow adjustment technology, perfect shot preview, and a "Live View" LCD experience.
"The Live View LCD enables photographers to hold the camera away from their faces and at angles they just cannot reach by using the optical viewfinder alone."
The Olympus E-420 Digital SLR will be available in May 2008. The package includes the E-420 Body, USB Cable, Video Cable, Li-Ion Battery Pack (BLS-1), Li-Ion Battery Charger (BCS-1), Shoulder Strap, OLYMPUS Master 2 Software CD-ROM, Manuals and Warranty Card.
