MSI Wind Netbook To Ship with Windows XP or Linux OS
If LapTop Magazine's review of the new MSI Wind netbook with Windows XP is any indication, this new ultraportable will be a great choice if you're looking to buy a light-weight (2.6 lbs), compact computer. Wind stands for “Wi-Fi Network Device,” but lets just call it a netbook. The MSI Wind features an 80G / 2.5” SATA hard drive, and the new Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor which was designed specifically for mobile computing devices like this. MSI was able to put an ergonomically designed keyboard that is only 20% smaller than of a full sized keyboard on the 10” Wind, with keys spaced 0.68 inches apart. Battery life on the Windows based version is said to provide up to 5.5 hours, thanks in part to Wind’s display which features embedded LED power-saving backlight technology.
Additional MSI Wind features include a 1.3M webcam, Bluetooth, 3 USB ports and a 4-in-1 card reader. The Windows version of the MSI Wind is priced at $499, and will be available starting June 16th at www.msimobile.com. The Linux based models of the Wind ultra portable netbook will be available at the same site later this summer for $399.
