New TiVo Series4 Premiere and Premiere XL DVR Boxes Announced

TiVo Inc. has just upped their DVR game by introducing the new TiVo Premiere and TiVo Premiere XL boxes that combine access to cable programs, movies, web videos, and music. Described as being more powerful, compact, and energy efficient than previous generations of TiVo DVRs, the Premiere also includes an on-screen disk space meter that shows how much room is left to record, a built in 30 second scan, and a new video window that lets you watch your favorite show while navigating the TiVo menus, according to the company. You get up to 45 hours of HD storage space or up to 400 hours of standard definition programming capacity on the Premiere box, while the TiVo Premiere XL box can hold up to 150 hours of HD video or up to 1350 hours of standard definition.

The Premiere offers all the TV browsing features you can ask for, with shows from every source organized by category or topic on a full-screen menu (optimized for widescreen HDTVs) that shows-off movie posters and TV show logos to help you discover and find programs to watch or record. Built on Adobe Flash software, the new TiVo Series4 Premiere devices are also broadband-connected, giving users quick access to online digital entertainment from YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, Blockbuster On Demand, and they enable you to search for even more goodies on the Web.

A new TiVo Wireless N adapter, scheduled to ship in May, will provide faster downloads and faster streaming of content on the devices, and a pretty slick looking slide-out QWERTY Bluetooth remote with backlit programmable buttons will also be available later this year for quick text entry when needed. It's too bad these accessories won't be packaged with the new TiVo Premiere and TiVo Premiere XL boxes when they arrive in stores in early April for $299.99 and $499.99, respectively.
