Amazon introduces new affordable Kindle and Kindle Touch e-readers

Amazon has added a few new Kindle devices to their bestselling e-reader line, and they are lighter, faster, and most importantly, less expensive.

The new 6-inch Kindle (available today) is priced at just $79, while the new Kindle Touch with touch screen costs $99, and the new Kindle Touch 3G with free 3G is priced at $149. Both the Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G will be released on November 21st.

AT&T Stores to sell Amazon Kindle 3G Wireless eBook Reader

Amazon's popular Kindle 3G wireless eBook Reader is set to go on sale at AT&T retail stores nationwide beginning March 6th priced at $189, with no monthly wireless fees or annual contracts. Kindle 3G connects to AT&T's 3G mobile broadband network or over Wi-Fi to wirelessly download books, magazines, newspapers, blogs and personal documents. The lightweight Amazon Kindle 3G eBook reading device features a 6-inch Pearl e-ink electronic paper display that is actually readable in direct sunlight, and the ereader can store up to 3,500 books.

The VTech InnoPad Tablet for kids is a new electronic learning toy that offers interactive and animated reading, educational gaming and creative activities through cartridges and software titles (priced at $24.99 each) that feature popular characters. The InnoPad tablet is aimed at children aged 4-9, and features a 5-inch color touch screen LCD, a tilt-sensor for game control, microphone, headphone jack, as well as USB and SD card support.

Aimed at students and schools that want to use tablets and handheld devices in the classroom, Brainchild has introduced its new Kineo Android Tablet eBook Reader. Created specifically for education and learning, the Kineo is school-safe with built-in safety features. For example, the Kineo can only access websites that are pre-programmed by a school administrator or teacher, and messaging capabilities have been disabled to make sure that students use the Kineo for learning, as described in the following video.

According to Brainchild, Kineo Tablet orders are being taken now and the device will ship in March. The cost per Kineo is $299.99.

O, the Oprah Magazine iPad app is now available and on sale from Apple iTunes App Store for $3.99. The Oprah O magazine app is packed with inspirational stories and information that O readers are used to, but now you get bonus material and interactive features with the iPad's multi-touch display and interface. The iPad edition app kicks-off with O's December "Miracles" issue featuring the holiday "O List" and the magazine's top ten books of the year, as well as exclusive video messages from Oprah Winfrey.

Coming from the same company that created the enTourage eDGe dualbook eBook e-Reader, enTourage Systems has announced its new compact Pocket eDGe touch screen tablet, e-reader and notepad device. The Pocket eDGe offers a dual-screen design with both a 7-inch LCD screen and a 6-inch E-Ink screen. The 7” LCD screen is optimized for Web browsing, watching videos, and working with Microsoft Office documents while the other side of the Pocket eDGe has a 6” E-Ink screen for reading e-books, documents in EPUB, and PDF documents. The E-Ink screen also allows for annotations or note-taking with an included stylus.

The Pocket eDGe is available in November for $399.

Nextbook Next2 Android 7-inch Color Tablet with Borders eBook Store

Consumer electronics company E FUN is launching the Nextbook line of Android e-reader tablets in the U.S. in November, starting with the new Next2 Andriod tablet computer with built-in e-reader and Wi-fi.  Priced at a budget-friendly $199.99, the Next2 tablet features a 7-inch TFT color touch-screen display, 2GB of memory, an SD/MMC card slot for memory expansion, an MP3 player, and photo viewer. You can also browse the Internet, e-mail, watch YouTube videos, and listen to music online with Pandora and RadioTime.

Nextbook tablets come preloaded with Borders eBook Store application for purchasing and downloading book titles and the Nextbook website has a nice demo video showing the ease of turning pages and choosing apps on the Netxt 2's 800x480 resolution touch-screen. The company is also shipping the device with a protective cover case, 25 books, and some videos and music pre-loaded into the Next2. You'll also find a calculator and an alarm clock on board. Accessories include an AC adapter, manual, USB cable, and pouch.
