Toshiba Unveils libretto W100 Dual-touch-screen Windows 7 Mini-notebook PC

Libretto-W100

Toshiba Corporation is celebrating 25 years in the portable PC business by launching a few new laptops, most eye catching of the bunch being the innovative libretto W100 dual touch-screen Windows 7 mini-notebook PC, which will receive a limited release in late summer 2010. Official pricing or release date was not announced as of yet.

Libretto W100 concept PC

The pocket-sized, clamshell device sports two 7.0-inch wide touch-sensitive LCD screens with LED backlighting that are said to offer a display equivalent to a 10.0-inch wide screen. Equipped with an integrated accelerometer, you can open it like a book and ebook reader that displays a double-page spread, or a like a notebook PC with a haptic keyboard provided on the lower screen. Windows 7 on the device takes full advantage of the dual-screen technology, making it easy to navigate menus, run applications side-by-side and interact between applications by dragging content from one-screen to another. As the two screens can be used for different purposes, it's possible to create content on one screen and use the other to surf the web or run multimedia apps, for example.

LibrettoW100

The compact Libretto W100 packs a 62GB SSD, 2GB memory, an Intel Pentium 1.20GHz processor U5400 (CULV), a 1.02 Megapixel webcam, double touch-sensitive 7.0-inch Wide WSVGA (1,024x600) LED LCDs, an integrated MicroSD card reader and a USB 2.0 port. It also offers Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G Mobile Broadband, and Bluetooth connectivity. Battery life is less impressive, at just 2-4 hours depending on battery type.  You can catch a preview of the Libretto W100 in the video below.

"The Libretto W100 offers a unique way to manage files, access stored content or create personal reminders, using Toshiba’s LifeSpace applications. Using the Libretto W100’s dual touchscreen interface, users have a quick, simple and intuitive way of navigating documents with ReelTime – a picture based timeline of recently opened items. Additionally, Bulletin Board allows users to drag favourite files to a virtual pin-board, or quickly bring up links or post-it notes for fast reference – content is ready and just a touch away."
